The cerebellum is a part of the hindbrain in vertebrates. In humans the cerebellum lies between the brainstem and the back of the cerebrum and is formed of two lateral lobes and a median lobe. It plays an important role in sensory perception, motor output, balance and posture.

The hindbrain is the posterior part of the brain, comprising the cerebellum, pons and medulla, the rhombencephalon.

The cerebrum, the largest part of the human brain, consists of two cerebral hemispheres. Each cerebral hemisphere has an inner core composed of white matter, and an outer surface – the cerebral cortex – composed of grey matter.

A cerebral hemisphere is one of the two regions of the brain that are delineated by the body’s median plane.

The human-body median plane is the only plane along which the human body is roughly symmetrical, running from the top to the bottom through navel, separating the left and the right hand.

White matter is a region of the central nervous system containing myelinated nerve fibres and no dendrites.

Myelinated means of nerves, having a coating of myelin.

Myelin is a white, fatty material, composed of lipids and lipoproteins, that surrounds the axons of nerves.

A lipid is any of a group of organic compounds including the fats, oils, waxes, sterols, and triglycerides. Lipids are characterized by being insoluble in water, and account for most of the fat present in the human body.

Sterol is any steroid that contains a hydroxyl group in the 3-position of the A-ring. Sterol is an organic compound with formula C17H28O, whose molecule is derived from that of gonane by replacement of a hydrogen atom in position 3 by a hydroxyl group.

Gonane is the underlying tetracyclic hydrocarbon of steroids without any alkyl sidechains.

Tetracyclic means having four rings.

Alkyl is any of a series of univalent radicals of the general formula CnH2n+1 derived from aliphatic hydrocarbons.

Univalent or monovalent means having an atomic valence of 1, or having only one valence.

Valence means the combining capacity of an atom, radical or functional group determined by the number of electrons that it will lose, gain, or share when it combines with other atoms etc. Valence also means the number of binding sites of a molecule, such as an antibody or antigen.

An antibody is a protein produced by B-lymphocytes that binds to a specific antigen.

A lymphocyte is any of several types of white blood cell with a spherical nucleus occurring in the lymphatic system, including B cells, T cells and natural killer cells.

White blood cell is a type of blood cell that is involved with an immune response, or part of the immune system.

A blood cell is any of the cells normally found in blood, namely erythrocytes and leukocytes, sometimes including the platelets.

Blood a vital liquid flowing in the bodies of many types of animals that usually conveys nutrients and oxygen. In vertebrates, it is colored red by hemoglobin, is conveyed by arteries and veins, is pumped by the heart and is usually generated in bone marrow.

Nutrient is a source of nourishment, such as food, that can be metabolized by an organism to give energy and build tissue.

To metabolize means to undergo metabolism. Metabolism is the chemical processes that occur within a living organism in order to maintain life.

Energy is the capacity to do work.

A biological tissue is a group of cells similar in origin that function together to do a specific job.
